As I was leaving work today, bundling up in my parka and toque, a realization came to me on a story I've been stuck on for way too long.
I think I stood there for five minutes and went "Can I do that? Why yes...yes I can!" Nothing drastic needs to be removed just deleting a character who has few scenes but has left me scratching my head wondering what the heck I'm going to do with her and the third brother.
Answer. Nothing.
Not a blessed thing. She doesn't move the story forward. She doesn't move my characters forward ergo she's superfluous. There's nothing worse than a superfluous character. Worse, she was making my other brother superfluous but now with her gone...I'm feeling good. I may get this story finished yet! Oooooh. Ahhhh.
