Sing A Song

I like to find songs that fit my stories. Then I'll play repeat on itunes. Over and over and over again. It's been so long since I've written (almost two years...cough cough) that I forgot this aspect of me until...

I was at work, writing (because what else am I going to do there? My job?) when a Sarah McLachlan song came on. I paused in my writing, head tilted to the side like an inquisitive puppy. There was a little switch within that flicked on and said "This is the song."

I see it as a song about screwing up and then trying to tidy up the mess. Pretty much of all of my characters messed up big and now the repercussions are coming to a head. It was perfect for every one of my characters. Yep, every one. How convenient.

And this is pretty much all I'm going to reveal about my story. I've spilled too much in the past only to not pen it. So if it goes no further and I'm okay with that (I see this as a pre-season game) but at least I'm starting to remember my process. Always good to know.

An Update

It's been awhile since there's been a post here. It's been awhile since there's been any writing here. I'm getting back into the right place though. On Sunday for the first time in almost two years, I started to write again. For the past couple of weeks I had been reading old stops and starts and some characters started to whisper in my head.

I've pretty much forgotten the writing process. When to time pivotal moments, what pivotal moments are. No problem writing the sex though. That hasn't gone away. phew. But this is a learning curve. I'm not sure what will happen with this story. Maybe nothing. Perhaps I just need a writing exercise to return to the words.

I once claimed "I don't miss the writing. Shouldn't I miss the writing?" And I realize I was lying to myself. I did miss the writing, I just didn't realize it until I was again playing with the words.

So, while I don't know what's going to happen, I'm pleased to pat myself on the back with over 11,000 words written since Sunday. Not too shabby. Good thing it's slow at work, eh?
